I learned to play the clarinet at 12 or 13 and, like most kids of that age, lost interest in playing it some 3 or 4 years later. Then, many years later towards the end of my working life, I dusted it off, took a few lessons and joined the Ryde City Concert Band in Sydney, near to where we lived. A few years later a friend persuaded me to join another band, the Harmonix Concert Band based at Baulkham Hills, Sydney. It was while I was there that I bought an Alto Sax and taught myself how to play it. Some time later my wife and I made one of the best decisions we’ve ever made and moved to Brisbane. We’ve been here now for over 4 years and love it!
I joined Second Wind Concert Band shortly after arriving here and I’ve been so impressed with the friendliness of all that I’ve met. I’ve played clarinet in Intermezzo but I’m currently playing Alto Sax in the Concert Band. In my spare time I’m learning to play Jazz and that’s introducing a new set of challenges.
