I joined the SW Concert Band in 2002 after learning to play the flute with my children’s school instrumental music teacher. I had never read music before, so it was a big learning curve for me. A few years later, the band obtained a grant for various things, including a bass clarinet. Because I had played my son’s on occasion, I put my hand up to give it a go and the rest is history as they say.
Around this time, I also became the Concert Band librarian and apart from a break between 2011 and 2014 when I lived in Sydney, I am still the CB Librarian.
In about 2010 I came up with the idea of a small woodwind group to give the flutes and clarinets another outlet to play in a small ensemble without percussion or brass. An alternative to the big band basically plus a group to play at small venues. This became Little Winds initially and has grown over the years to include brass players. This group is now known as Intermezzo and I am the librarian for this ensemble as well.
In 2022 I also became the vice president of the Second Wind Community Band Inc.
