Robyn began her musical adventures at the age of eight. She followed in her dad’s footsteps and learnt piano. She grew up in country NSW, surrounded by cow paddocks, and as there was no school band, she turned her musical attention to the piano. She relentlessly hammered away at the family’s upright Beale, till she drove her parents mad. ‘Get off the piano!’ Over the years she sang in choirs and musicals at every oportunity. She took up flute as an adult, and because she later found herself once again living in the country, this time in south-western Victoria, she ended up teaching piano and flute to beginners. She later completed a studio music teachers’ course at Melbourne University, adding that to her regular teaching quals. She’s been an accompanist for amateur musical productions, and clowned and danced around on stage in community theatre (sad but true). Robyn loves a wide range of musical styles, and confesses to singing and dancing to the soundtracks of movies and musicals in the lounge room, in the car, on the road to Gundagai, and along the dusty, deserted Barkly Tableland in the NT. She has ambition to learn to improvise fluently, but needs a heap of practice. She plays with two of the Second Wind ensembles – Intermezzo and Concert Band.
