My musical journey started when I was 9 and started to learn the flute and piano. I switched to the saxophone in high school, initially playing alto, but ended up playing tenor mostly as this was what was needed in the school band at the time. I continued with both saxophone and piano until grade 12 but did not pick up a saxophone again until one of my children started learning the alto and I joined him in the school band. Once my children had finished primary school, I wanted to continue playing and came across Second Wind Community Band, starting in Intermezzo and making the move to Concert Band in 2024. From my first rehearsal with Second Wind, everyone has been welcoming and supportive – it’s so wonderful to be part of such a diverse group of individuals who genuinely have fun every week at rehearsal. As a physiotherapist by day, I love being able to explore my creative side with this wonderful community. If you are thinking of learning an instrument or rediscovering one, then please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!
